GST Invoice FAQs
What is a GST invoice?
A GST invoice is a document issued by a registered dealer to a buyer that includes details of goods/services sold, GST charged (CGST, SGST, or IGST), GSTIN of both parties, and other mandatory fields as per GST law.
When should I use CGST/SGST vs IGST?
Use CGST + SGST for intra-state transactions (seller and buyer in same state). Use IGST for inter-state transactions (seller and buyer in different states) or for exports/imports.
Is GSTIN mandatory on invoices?
If you are registered under GST, you must include your GSTIN on all invoices. If you're not registered (turnover below threshold), you can still create invoices but cannot charge GST.
What are the mandatory fields in a GST invoice?
A GST invoice must include: Invoice number, date, GSTIN of supplier, name and address of buyer, HSN code/SAC, quantity, taxable value, GST rates, and total amount.
Can I create GST invoices without registration?
You can create invoices without GST registration, but you cannot charge or collect GST from customers. Such invoices are called "Bill of Supply" instead of "Tax Invoice".
